“The Wizard of Oz”

IU South Bend to Present “The Wizard of Oz”

The IU South Bend Theatre and Dance Company of The Ernestine M. Raclin School of the Arts at IU South Bend presents “The Wizard of Oz” as this year’s children’s theater production.  Performances will be at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Saturday, February 9, in the Campus Auditorium, Northside Hall.

The IU South Bend Theatre and Dance Company has been entrancing young audiences with their annual children’s theater production for 49 years. Celebrate the 50th anniversary as IU South Bend brings the magic of theater to life through “The Wizard of Oz.”

Come along and interact with Dorothy, Scarecrow, the Tin-Woodman, the Cowardly Lion, and Toto and help them as they make their way down the yellow brick road in search of Oz.

This adaptation of a long time favorite will follow the famous quintet as they search for their deepest desires and learn very important lessons along the way.  Enjoy this familiar story with a vaudevillian twist, adding elements of dance and music to help tell the tale. “The Wizard of Oz” is a story that will forever intrigue minds of young and old alike.  Focusing on Dorothy and the relationships she makes, we have a chance to be reminded not to take the relationships in our lives for granted.

The IU South Bend Theatre and Dance Company will perform two public performances on Saturday, Feb. 9. All other performances will serve as outreach to the surrounding community schools. Children will have a chance to meet the actors and receive autographs after each public performance.

Tickets for “The Wizard of Oz” are available to adults and children for $3 from the Ernestine M. Raclin School of the Arts box office.  For more information or to get tickets online visit arts.iusb.edu or call the box office at 574-520-4203.
