September 14, 2012 News conference to release details of Aung San Suu Kyi’s visit to Fort WayneWednesday, Sept. 19, at 10 a.m. in the lobby of the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum
FORT WAYNE, Ind.— Fort Wayne’s Burmese Welcoming Committee for the visit of Aung San Suu Kyi, Indiana University–Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW), and the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum will hold a news conference Wednesday, Sept. 19, at 10 a.m. in the lobby of the Coliseum.
Representatives of the Welcoming Committee, IPFW, and the Coliseum will release details of the Tuesday, Sept. 25 visit by the Nobel Peace Prize recipient. Information regarding ticketing, parking, security, translation, and other topics will be shared.
Kyi received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1991, while being held under house arrest by the military dictatorship of Myanmar. She was under arrest from 1989 until 2010, with a few brief periods of freedom. Kyi has long been an opposition leader to the ruling military government and in 2012 won election to Myanmar’s Parliament.
