Recipients of piano fellowships at the Ernestine M. Raclin School of the Arts at IU South Bend will present a free recital at 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17, in the Campus Auditorium of Northside Hall. Performers will include Ketevan Kartvelishvili, Siwon Kim, Ignasi Cambra and Natasa Stojanovska. These fellowships are supported by The Martin Foundation, Inc. of Naples, Fla. and Rex and Alice A. Martin Foundation of Elkhart, Ind.
Ketevan Kartvelishvili will play the first and second movements of Prokofiev’s Concerto No. 2 and Siwon Kim will perform Liszt’s Sonata in b minor. The program will also include performances by Ignasi Cambra, playing Chopin’s Polonaise Fantasie and Natasa Stojanovska playing Chopin’s Concerto No. 1 in e minor.
Recipients of the Martin Fellowship in Piano and the Rex and Alice A. Martin Fellowship are members of the Toradze Piano Studio. The Toradze Piano Studio is a unique phenomenon in today’s musical world – an assembly of several generations of pianists – students and associates of Alexander Toradze. The studio was established in 1991 at IU South Bend with the appointment of Alexander Toradze as Martin Endowed Professor in Piano.
Soon it began touring as a piano ensemble-the first of its kind in the United States. The studio has since reached professional status, an unheard of achievement, for their marathon performances of a single composer’s work and their international performance schedule.
