Actor and Activist Mia Farrow to Open IPFW 2012–13 Omnibus Lecture Series

FORT WAYNE, Ind.—Indiana University–Purdue University Fort Wayne’s (IPFW) Omnibus Lecture Series, in its 18th year, opens the 2012–13 season with Actor and Activist, Mia Farrow, on Wednesday, September 12, at 7:30 p.m., in the Rhinehart Music Center. She will present “With Knowledge Comes Responsibility: The Darfur Crisis.”

Daughter of Hollywood royalty, Mia Farrow gained national attention in her role in the television classic Peyton Place. Farrow went on to star in more than 40 movies, including Rosemary’s Baby, The Great Gatsby, and Hannah and Her Sisters.

Mother of 14 children (10 of whom are adopted), Farrow has devoted her life to humanitarian causes in her own life and beyond. She has been a high-profile advocate for children’s rights and has worked to raise funds and awareness for children in conflict-affected regions, predominantly in Africa.

Farrow is a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and has worked extensively to draw attention to the fight to eradicate polio. Her latest humanitarian effort raises awareness of the genocide occurring in Darfur, Chad, and the Central African Republic. She reminds us of our moral responsibility to ensure that “never again” are not just words.

In her best-selling memoir, What Falls Away, Farrow reflects on her ever-evolving life journey in a revealing account of her personal struggles and successes.                   

Free tickets are required for all Omnibus Lectures. Tickets may be obtained IN PERSON at the Larson Box Office in the Gates Athletic Center, 12:30–6:30 p.m., Monday through Friday; ONLINE at ipfw.edu/box-office, and a convenience fee of $1 will be charged; or DAY OF EVENT in the Rhinehart Music Center one hour before the lecture, if seats remain. Tickets will be available three weeks prior to each event.

The Omnibus Lecture Series has been supported by the English Bonter Mitchell Foundation since 1995. The 2012–13 season media sponsors are WANE-TV NewsChannel 15 and Northeast Indiana Public Radio.

Each lecture will be held on the IPFW campus in The John and Ruth Rhinehart Music Center’s 1,600-seat Auer Performance Hall. Doors open one hour before the each lecture. Campus parking is free and convenient. A new 1,000-space parking garage is located in the Fine Arts Plaza to serve Omnibus audiences. Patrons are advised to allow ample time for traffic and parking, as the series and other events on campus may draw large crowds.

The John and Ruth Rhinehart Music Center is located on the north end of campus in the arts plaza next to the Ernest E. Williams Theatre and the Visual Arts Building, and behind the Medical Education Center.
