FORT WAYNE, Ind.—Indiana University–Purdue University Fort Wayne’s (IPFW’s) College of Art and Sciences 2012 University Community Conversation (UC2) series presents “Feeding the City: A Panel Discussion.” The event is organized by Damian Fleming, assistant professor, English and Linguistics and program coordinator, medieval studies, and will be moderated by Elizabeth Mannir, limited term lecturer, women’s studies, Tuesday, September 25, at 7 p.m. in the Walb Union Ballroom. The presentation is free and open to the public.
The panel discussion will feature local food distributors and producers who will explore what it means to eat and feed in Fort Wayne. Even as the global food industry makes many of the foods available throughout the United States and the world, more people are looking locally to food suppliers they can know personally. Panelists will include:
Jane Avery, executive director, Community Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Indiana Inc.Dan Campbell, Affiné Food TruckDerek Daily, president, IPFW Urban and Community Gardening OrganizationCyndi A. Demaree, president/co-owner, Firefly Coffee House Inc.Fritz Hoffman, general manager, J.K. O'Donnell's Irish Ale HouseRicky Kemery, Purdue horticulture extension educator/Allen CountyThe 2012 UC² theme is “The City.” Starting in January 2012, events have examined the city and its multiple meanings: The city as Fort Wayne, the city as any global urban center, and the city as an abstract idea. As a growing percentage of the world’s population congregates in cities and as Fort Wayne works to redefine itself in the 21st century, “The City” is a theme and topic in which we are all invested.
